Law Schools Ranked by Median Grant Amount
196 schools · median grant for full-time students, per year · ABA 509, 2025 cycle
Award size and coverage are separate questions
St. John's University posts the largest median grant at $60,000 — but only 84.0% of its students receive grant aid at all. A large median spread across a small group is a different programme from a smaller median paid to nearly everyone, and the coverage figure next to each school is there to keep that distinction visible.

Net tuition after the median grant
Annual tuition minus the median grant. This is an optimistic floor, not a real number: the median only covers students who received aid, and it assumes the same award repeats for all three years.
164 schools report an annual tuition figure, so only those can appear here. The remaining 32 report tuition per credit hour and are excluded rather than estimated. A few schools show a negative net figure — their median grant exceeds published tuition, which reflects generous aid stacked on top of a low sticker price rather than an error.

Limits of this comparison
- Only annual reporters appear. 32 schools report tuition per credit hour and are absent from the net table, including several with substantial grant programmes.
- Cost of attendance is not tuition. Fees and housing add tens of thousands. Compare these grants against the three-year total cost, not tuition alone.
- Merit aid is often non-need-blind. A school may publish merit scholarships that stack with need-based aid, or may cap the total. None of that is in the 509 disclosure, so the figure here will not match an actual offer.
