What we collect, why, and what we deliberately do not. This site has no accounts, so most visitors are never identified at all.

1. The short version

  • No accounts. You cannot log in. We never ask you to create an account, so we have no user database.
  • No selling of personal information. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We do not build profiles of individual visitors.
  • No lead forms. Applying to law school does not require giving us your email, phone, or address.
  • Advertising is how the site is funded. Google AdSense serves ads, and Google may use cookies or device identifiers to do so. This is the one part of this page where third parties are involved.
  • Analytics is aggregated. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful, in aggregate form.

2. Who we are

OpenLawPrep ("we", "us") publishes free law school admissions data and LSAT reference tools. This policy covers openlawprep.com and its subpages only. We are not affiliated with the American Bar Association, the Law School Admission Council, or any law school.

3. What we do not collect

Because there is no sign-up and no contact form that stores submissions, we simply do not hold:

  • Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or mailing addresses of visitors
  • Application materials, LSAT scores you entered, or any school preference you looked at
  • Anything about a law school application you are in the middle of
  • Accounts, logins, or password hashes — because there are none

Your calculator inputs never leave your browser. The LSAT and GPA calculators run entirely client-side. Scores you type in are not transmitted to our servers and are not stored anywhere. Clearing your browser removes them permanently.

4. Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-Y58P5HCVHL) to measure how the site is used. Analytics gives us aggregate statistics such as page views, referrers, approximate region and city, and device/browser type.

Specifically, we use GA4 to answer questions like:

  • Which pages are actually useful to visitors?
  • Which of our pages earn non-brand search traffic?
  • How much traffic comes from the United States versus elsewhere?
  • Which states and cities do visitors actually read from?

We do not use GA4 to build a profile of an individual, to retarget advertising to you, or to identify you across other websites. We configure GA4 with IP anonymisation, and we do not enable any advertising features, remarketing audiences, or signals for ad personalisation.

You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or you can block cookies in your browser. Blocking cookies will not remove any content from this site — every tool and every data page works without cookies.

5. Google AdSense and advertising cookies

OpenLawPrep is funded entirely by advertising, which is served by Google AdSense. No subscription, no paywall, no charge.

How third-party vendors use cookies

Google, as a vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites.

  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and/or other sites.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.

What the advertising partner does and does not receive

When ads are served, Google and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers, IP addresses, and ad interaction data to select which ads to show you. We do not send them any information about you beyond what the ordinary delivery of an ad necessarily involves, and we do not receive any personally identifying information from them.

About this site

This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Law School Admission Council, the American Bar Association, or any law school. LSAT® is a registered trademark of LSAC, which does not review or endorse this site.

6. Other third parties

The site is hosted on Vercel, which serves the files and logs standard technical request data (such as IP address and user agent) to deliver the pages you request. Text and data files are served through a content delivery network, which likewise processes the technical information needed to serve a file.

We do not embed third-party advertising networks other than Google AdSense, and we do not add third-party social widgets, trackers, or pixels.

7. Why we are allowed to process this

Where the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies:

DataPurposeLegal basis
Aggregated analytics data (GA4)Understanding which pages are usefulLegitimate interest — operating and improving the site; we use aggregate data and do not build individual profiles
Cookies and similar identifiers set by Google's advertising servicesAdvertising delivery and measurementConsent, given by the advertising partner's own consent flow where required
Technical request logs held by our hosting providerDelivering pages and preventing abuseLegitimate interest — operating the site securely
Email you choose to send usReplying to youLegitimate interest — responding to your enquiry

8. How long we keep it

  • GA4 data: retained by Google under its own retention settings, typically up to 14 months at our configuration. We do not export or retain individual-level copies beyond what Analytics displays.
  • Technical request logs: retained by our hosting provider for a short, rotating period (typically weeks, not years).
  • Emails you send us: kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and keep a record of any data correction.
  • Calculator inputs: never transmitted, never stored. They exist only in your browser's memory until you close or reload the page.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

In practice there is very little to exercise: we do not hold accounts, identifiers, or contact details for visitors. Analytics data is aggregated. So there is normally nothing personally identifying for us to retrieve, correct, or delete — but if you believe we hold something about you, email us and we will check and answer.

10. Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Since we collect nothing from anyone, this applies to all visitors.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change what we do — for example, if we add a service that handles personal data — we will update this page and change the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be called out more prominently.
